A free, native disk cleaner for macOS that shows you everything before it touches anything — nothing pre-selected, everything recoverable, and “System Data” finally explained.
Most cleaners ask you to trust a big “Clean” button. Phila Clear explains where your space went and lets you decide.
Nothing is pre-selected. Every item shows its size, date and location. Tick single files, whole categories, or opt into “Select Recommended”.
Everything goes to the Trash — even system caches. Purge only what was just moved, when you choose.
Snapshots, swap, logs, Spotlight, Simulator runtimes, VM disks — measured live, with only Apple-supported ways to shrink them.
Xcode DerivedData, DeviceSupport, Simulators, npm, pnpm, Yarn, Bun, pip, Homebrew, SwiftPM, Gradle and Go caches, Docker build cache.
Adobe Media Cache & Peak Files, DaVinci Resolve CacheClip, plus Electron app caches from Slack, Discord, VS Code and more.
Protected paths can never be removed, symlinks are never followed, nothing is counted twice, and SIP-protected areas are never touched.
Same goal — more space — with a very different philosophy.
| Typical cleaners | Phila Clear | |
|---|---|---|
| What gets deleted | Pre-selected for you | Only what you tick |
| Where it goes | Often deleted immediately | Your Trash, recoverable |
| “System Data” | A mystery number | Measured part by part, explained |
| Admin access | Permanent privileged helper | No helper — one prompt per run |
| Transparency | Vague “junk” totals | Every file and its location shown first |
| Price & privacy | Subscription, analytics | Free. No network calls, no telemetry |
Requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later.
Open PhilaClear.dmg and drag Phila Clear onto the Applications folder.
The app is free and not notarized by Apple, so macOS asks once. Try to open it, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Or run:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Phila Clear.app"System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access → enable Phila Clear, then relaunch. Without it, some app caches, Mail downloads and iOS backups are skipped.

Phila Clear is free and ad-free. If it saved you a few gigabytes (or a hardware upgrade), you can buy me a coffee — it keeps the project going.
Secure checkout by Stripe. You can still change the amount there. Test mode — no real charges yet.
Caches are rebuilt by apps automatically. Phila Clear never selects anything for you, moves items to the Trash instead of deleting them, and refuses to touch protected folders. Categories that hold your own data (backups, archives, old downloads, large files) are labelled “Review”.
Only to move system-wide caches and logs into your Trash, or to run an Apple tool such as tmutil or log erase that you explicitly choose. Nothing is installed in the background.
No. The app makes no network connections at all — see the Privacy Policy.
Yes. Phila Clear is freeware: free for personal and business use, with no ads, trials or paid tiers. It isn't open source. Please share the link to this site rather than re-hosting the installer. See the Terms of Use.
Mostly a warm feeling. Donations are voluntary gifts that keep development going. They don't unlock anything, and they aren't refundable or tax-deductible. Payments are handled securely by Stripe.
It is built with SwiftUI and Liquid Glass, introduced in macOS 26 Tahoe.
